Elizabeth Rogers is a sculptor and landscape painter, whose art is inspired by the direct study of nature and by the work of artists from a range of periods and artistic traditions. Within the medium of sculpture she creates figurative work that is rich in plasticity and expression. She sculpts portraits, figures and animals and has been awarded numerous commissions.

Her paintings convey a breadth of space, atmosphere and form within the two dimensional plane. Studying the expression of light in nature, as it grazes land and water and is interrupted by clouds and weather, has been her continual interest. When painting directly from nature she seeks to capture a truthful impression. Paintings made in the studio are drawn from memory and imagination often veering into abstraction. Some of the paintings have a dark quality….but a darkness clearly enlivened and embroidered with light.

Elizabeth received a B.S. in Fine Arts from Western Michigan University, studied figurative sculpture at the University of Michigan, and received an M.F.A. from the Graduate School of Figurative Art, at the New York Academy of Art. She also studied with Koho Yamamoto at the Koho School of Sumi-E, NY, NY. She has taught at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and The University of Pennsylvania.
