Hatched in Prison:

Project Description

A former detainee tells his life in prison with impressive carved eggs

October 22, 2015 – As a former detainee who spent over 20 years in the prisons of California, the artist Gil Batle tells his life in prison with some amazing ostrich eggs that he sculpts with an impressive precision and finesse. After a lot of violences and racial segregations, it’s thanks to his talent and attention to detail that he managed to get a place in the prison environment, including by tattooing his fellow prisoners. The creations of Gil Batle will be on display at the Ricco/Maresca gallery in New York for an exhibition entitled Hatched in Prison, from November 5th, 2015 to January 9th, 2016.
