Sindy Lutz b. 1966

Sindy Lutz grew up at the Jersey Shore. Her seascapes reflect the impact of staring at the ocean and bay in all it’s changing moods, light and color over many years. These small drawings—made of graphite and crayon—are drawn spontaneously from deep memories of living near the sea. They started as an escape from previous figurative work that sprang from frustration and early childhood trauma. For Lutz, these drawings are the joy of a fresh breath of sea atmosphere and sunlight. A safe place for the imagination to rest and wander.
“The sea is a mirror
We feel our own anger in it’s thrashing waves
Our hope in it’s smoldering sunrises
Our fear in it’s dark moonless nights”
