Tricia Cline + Toc Fetch: Mythology

Ricco/Maresca is pleased to present Tricia Cline/Toc Fetch, “Mythology,” Tricia Cline: Porcelain Sculptures and Toc Fetch: Paintings. This exhibition marks the third time the gallery has brought together the innovative and complex work of the two artists. Through creative collaboration, Cline and Fetch seek to blur the boundaries between love and mental interpretation by creating their own narratives in both life and art. Utilizing observational narrative, or realism, the duo manages to solicit the remembrance of the non-changing aspects of reality that already exist within the viewer.

The current exhibition tells the story of a Hero’s pilgrimage into the Self. The idea of the Self, a sacred non-dual reality, is embodied through the eyes of animals. In this instance, the animal serves as both a metaphor and reminder of the banal commonalities between all humans in the absence of culture, race, age and time. The Hero’s story is not as much a tale as it is a series of philosophical epiphanies leading to the finite realizations that every aspect of life is precious. According to the artists, the work is not complete until they have gone above all possible modes of the infinite and cognizance is reached.

The goal of the work is not to evoke definite answers but instead elicit a personal discourse between the viewer and subject allowing for a wide variety of interactions and interpretations. While they work in separate mediums, Cline as a sculptor and Fetch a comic book artist and painter, the philosophy behind their art remains consistent. All living creatures share a psychological unity and ability to understand both the mundane and utopian aspects of existence. An idea as easy to understand as it is complex. In the words of Fetch, “Only the joyful response has substance.”
